Respected sir,
Here i am present my point of view on the play 'Waiting for Godot' with the basis of my understanding.
Here i am share the link of the task:
1.) What connection do you see in the setting (“A country road. A tree.Evening.”) of the play and these paintings?
Ans: The connection between the setting of the play and in this painting is that, "A country road, A tree, and Evening". The painting also look similar to the setting of the play. The painting title name is 'Longing' it means that, 'Wait', another side in the play there were also talk about waiting for someone. So that with the sense of waiting for someone is the basic thing in both, in the painting and in the setting of the play also.
2.) The tree is the only important ‘thing’ in the setting. What is the importance of tree in both acts? Why does Beckett grow a few leaves in Act II on the barren tree - The tree has four or five leaves - ?
Ans: We can say that the presence of tree is very symbolically in the setting of the play, because the barren tree is also a symbol of 'World War 2'. In the Act 2 we see that the tree it has one leaf. It means that human being had some 'hope' for the good life.In Act 1 we see that Vladimir and Estragon both waiting for someone, so that the leaf is a symbol if their 'hope'. Second it represent that the change into the 'Nature'. Third thing is that 'Nature' do not care for anyone, it changes when its time come. Nature do not wait for anyone so, it goes on in its way.
3.) In both Acts, evening falls into night and moon rises. How would you like to interpret this ‘coming of night and moon’ when actually they are waiting for Godot?

Ans: In this scene we see that "evening falls into night and moon rises". It shows that next day come and become good for them, may be 'Godot will come' on the next day. They have some 'Hope' for the coming of 'Godot'. One dialogue here i suggest for this situation that, "Tomorrow never dies".Vladimir and Estragon has 'Hope' for 'tomorrow', 'the next day' will come and 'Godot' will come. It is also a part of our routine life, we also still waiting for some 'second coming' who will come and become something good with us.
4.) The director feels the setting with some debris. Can you read any meaning in the contours of debris in the setting of the play?
Ans: The setting of the play also around the "debris", means that the "wreckage", some kind of garbage of broken buildings. In the play the director show us that the situation of the World War 2 so for that the setting is around the 'debris'. it also a symbol of the condition of human mind, their thinking is a kind of "meaningless" and we can say it is "Absurd".
5.) How are the props like hat and boots used in the play? What is the symbolical significance of these props?
Ans: In the present play the character Vladimir has 'Hat' and Estragon has 'Boots', so both he props symbolize that Vladimir think 'Actively and Practically' on the other side Estragon , 'Forgets everything quickly', and he is a 'careless' person.Playing with hates by Vladimir and Estragon it also a symbol of the 'political condition' at that time period.
6.) Do you think that the obedience of Lucky is extremely irritating and nauseatic? Even when the master Pozzo is blind, he obediently hands the whip in his hand. Do you think that such a capacity of slavishness is unbelievable?

Ans: The Master - Slave relation between Pozzo and Lucky we see into this play. In the Act 1 we see that the character 'Lucky' as a slave completely surrender himself to his master 'Pozzo'. He has not his own thinking to do something, he move with the 'wipe' of his master. We see that he blindly follow his master's rules. In Act 2 Pozzo was blind, at that time Lucky has chance to escape from the slavery but he can't do that, yet he give the rope to his master's hand. So we see that the 'blindness' of human being.
7.) Who according to you is Godot? God? An object of desire? Death? Goal? Success? Or . . .
Ans: As per my point of view,'Godot' means that some 'Desire' of human being. We try to fulfill it but never escape from it. From the religious and spiritual point of view it means that, 'Death'. We all live life very beautifully but our end with the 'Death', we can say that it is a 'Goal' of our life. Some people waiting for the 'second coming of God' it will comes and something become good. Ultimately we can say that we all survive in life and at the end we getting 'Nivana', 'Moksha'. Accoding to this play at the end we getting such kind of 'Godot'.
8.) So far as Pozzo and Lucky [master and slave] are concerned, we have to remember that Beckett was a disciple of Joyce and that Joyce hated England. Beckett meant Pozzo to be England, and Lucky to be Ireland." (Bert Lahr who played Estragon in Broadway production). Does this reading make any sense? Why? How? What?
Ans: In this play Buckett represent Pozzo related to 'England' and Lucky related to 'Ireland'. We see that the setting of the play is World War 2 so, at that time there were some fight between the England and the Ireland. Their relation is not good with each other. So with the help of the characters Pozzo and Lucky Buckettshows us that the relation of 'Master and Slave'. Lucky was under control of Pozzo, so we can say that Ireland is also under control of England. Pozzo and Lucky also a symbol of to represent the relation between 'England and Ireland'.
Enjoy to read these answers.
Thank you.....
